    A Paging System for FPGA-Based Controllers

    In this work we design and implement a paging system for controllers which are based on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). A PicoBlaze embedded soft processor within the FPGA is used to monitor the controller and send SMS paging messages when necessary. The messages are transmitted through the GSM network by means of an external modem which is connected serially to the FPGA. The paging system is tested successfully on a speed controller of a servo motor

    Strain gauge sensors are used extensively in industrial machines and testing equipments. The output signal of these sensors is basically an analog voltage in the millivoltage range. Interfacing these sensors to a computer system is used to be a challenging problem. There are many popular solution strategies and designers must always compromise between cost, accuracy, and reliability. In this research a real design problem is presented. It is a rehabilitation of a Materials Testing Machine which is partially destroyed during the last war on Gaza. Many possible solution strategies are described and the most suitable one to the case study is adopted. The proposed design has been successfully implemented and the machine is returned back to work properly

    Modeling and Simulation of a Wastewater Pumping Plant.

    Modeling wastewater pumping plants is rarely addressed in the literature. Standard component models as found in fluid simulation tool libraries are too complex, due to their projected generality, to be used for these applications. Lack of models results in a burden on engineers who have to test their control scenarios on real implemented systems. This may lead to unexpected delays and painful costs. In this work, easily manageable component-oriented models are derived and applied to the modeling and simulation of a real wastewater pumping system. The model derived in this paper is implemented in Modelica, and it helps better understanding the system dynamics. Thereby, a tool is provided for evaluating the performance of possible control schemes

    A framework for modeling and control of wastewater pumping stations

    In waste water pumping stations, centrifugal pumps driven by induction motors are used to transport the effluent collected from residential and commercial buildings to the treatment plants. Due to the varying nature of collected effluent rate, means of pump flow control should be applied. Recently, there is an engineering debate on either recommending frequency converters control or on-and-off control using soft starter technology. While there are obvious reward and cost of utilizing either approach, the lack of a simulation model makes the selection decision a matter of poor agreement. This is likely to happen in developing areas where abnormal running conditions such as power failure, excess flows, and lack of spare parts are frequently encountered. In this paper, a method for modeling wastewater pumping stations using the component oriented modeling language Modelica is presented. The model provides a valuable simulation tool to validate and judge on the different control schemes of these stations. This approach is applied successfully on a real pumping station located at the northern part of Gaza. The derived model facilitates tuning the control parameters and allows better understanding of the system dynamics

This paper presented an approach for solving STP in a highly efficient and a few iterations until finding an optimal solution. The proposed method provides an initial solution near to optimum solution to the solid transportation problem close to the optimal solution.     Design and Implementation of a Viable Power Inverter

    in the last few years, people in the Gaza Strip started to rely on power inverters as part of a backup power system due to frequent failure of the mains utility. The simplest backup system consists of a battery, a battery charger, and an inverter. At least one house out of four in the Gaza Strip is equipped with such a system. In a previous work, a method for building a simple and applicable power inverter was presented. The used components and employed technology respect special conditions found in Gaza but also many other developing areas. However, the embedded battery charger is primitive and needs development. Moreover, the device has not been evaluated for induction motors loads such as fans or refrigerator compressors. In this work, the device charger is modified to run in a three stage charging algorithm. This is achieved by incorporating a TRIAC in the primary winding of the power transformer and controlling its firing angle according to the battery voltage as well as the charging current. Moreover, the inverter performance is investigated for running induction motors
